Recognition of Prior Learning
From Experience to Excellence: RPL Turns Your Skills into Accredited Australian Qualifications
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an innovative assessment process that recognises your skills and knowledge, regardless of how and where you acquired them. Whether you’ve learned through formal education, workplace training, or life experiences, RPL can help you turn that knowledge into Australian accredited qualifications.
What’s on this page:
How RPL works
Formal Learning: Convert your structured education programs, like certificates, diplomas, or university degrees, into recognised qualifications.
Non-Formal Learning: Turn your in-house professional development and training programs into certified competencies.
Informal Learning: Leverage your real-world experiences from work, social interactions, hobbies, or family life to gain formal recognition.

We help Turn Your Skills & Experience into Recognised Australian Qualifications
in the Industries of Hairdressing, Barbering, Beauty & Makeup.
Combination of pathways
At Colour Cosmetica Academy, we recognise that students applying for RPL may have gained competencies through work and life experiences but might also have gaps in their skills or need training in new areas.
In these cases, a combination of pathways may be appropriate. The process begins with an initial assessment to determine the student’s current competencies. Based on this assessment, a tailored learning and assessment programme is designed to address any identified gaps, ensuring that students acquire the additional competencies required.

This involves claiming your practical recognition for knowledge and skills not exercised as part of a formal course, but from life or work experience and any other training that you may have undertaken. (RPL, Recognition of Current Competence).
RPL means recognition of competencies currently held, regardless of how, when or where you’re learning occurred. Under the Australian Quality Training Framework, competencies may be attained in a number of ways.
This includes through any combination of formal or informal training and education, work experience or general life experience.
In order to grant your RPL, Colour Cosmetica Academy must be confident that a student is currently competent against the endorsed industry or enterprise competency standards or outcomes specified in Australian Qualifications Framework accredited courses.
The evidence required from all students whom are applying for RPL may take a variety of forms and could include certification, references from past employers, testimonials from clients and work samples.
The Colour Cosmetica Academy assessor must ensure that the evidence is authentic, valid, reliable, current and sufficient.
